Improving Futures
Wolverhampton Improving Futures Project Brief
Wolverhampton Improving Futures has been developed across a strategic partnership of voluntary and community organisations with WVSC as the accountable body for the Big Lottery fund. Core partners include Chance UK, The Haven, Hope Community Project, Platform 51 and YOW. There is also additional support from the Local Authority and other aligned partners.
The project is fundamentally an early intervention strategy which will involve the Chance UK mentoring model for working with children aged 5-11years who encounter issues in their life. We are working in particular with children who have experienced difficulties in families who have experienced domestic violence and also children whose families have learning difficulties.
We will be concentrating in three areas, Heath Town, Warstones and Bilston. However, should we have referrals from children who have witnessed domestic violence or have parents with learning difficulties we will cover the whole borough.
We will be employing 4 Project Workers who will work from the partner organisations within these communities and they in turn will work with up to 20 volunteer mentors each as the project progresses over the next few years.
We will be using the Chance UK’s model of mentoring and utilising the solution focussed brief therapy approach to assist children in overcoming barriers to achieving their goals. In total we will work with 200 families over the duration of the project.
