Wolverhampton Church Shelter Presents
I Am With You Always

The Church at Broad Street
Westbury Street | Wolverhampton | WV1 1JD
Friday 21 september 2018 | 6.30-8.30 pm

Following on from the success of the art exhibition, ‘I am with you always’ (an artists’ response to the temporary closure of the Church Shelter) the Shelter is opening its doors again to the public. Artists who have shown at galleries across the Midlands exhibited at the Shelter, transforming the walls of a homeless shelter into an uplifting art space. The exhibition was an opportunity for people to visit the shelter, find out about volunteering and show support for its work. Artwork and prints sold on the night raised in excess of £1,000 for the Shelter.

Since it began in 2016, the Church Shelter has been a place of rest and recuperation for more than 300 people. The ‘family culture’ of the Shelter has helped forge relationships with its guests, encouraging
them to begin a journey back into employment and accommodation. Over 60 people have successfully navigated a pathway out of rough sleeping and back into accommodation or employment, or both.

The Shelter, a church-led project, operates in partnership with other homeless service agencies. The teams who look after the guests every night are made up entirely of volunteers. Due to a shortage in volunteers the Shelter has had to temporarily close. This event hopes to inspire people to volunteer. The vision of the Church Shelter is to be a permanent part of the solution to homelessness in our city – a place of rest, recuperation and relationships and a first step towards a new life.
