How the Forum approached the listening exercise

The 45 members of the Forum attended 200 events and received responses from around 30,000 individuals and organisations, a response described as 'staggering' in the report. The Forum looked at the key elements of the reform programme from the perspective of their potential impact on delivering high quality healthcare and improved outcomes for patients.

Giving World Online (GWO)

Giving World Online (GWO) is a scheme set up to help to community groups and charities access free surplus goods from businesses and organisations whilst at the same time helping reduce the amount of goods sent to landfill.

In the next three months GWO will be engaging with businesses in the West Midlands region to encourage them to use GWO's free service to redirect their surplus goods onto charities and groups that could make use of them for their beneficiaries.

Safeguarding Conference - 22 June 2010

Specialist Services report that the Coalition Government has decided to postpone the dates due for bringing in the full effect of the Safeguarding scheme. Their aim is to look again at what is being said and see if they can make it less bureaucratic. As a result, the Safeguarding Conference was postponed but will be rearranged. The government is very anxious to make it clear that the Safeguarding Scheme has not been abandoned and the principles of it will ‘remain in place’.

WVSC Volunteer Centre Celebrates

WVSC Volunteer Centre Celebrates their 1000'th volunteer since taking over the service in January 2009. Wendy Walker, Volunteer Centre Manager said, 'it was only when we were carrying out some routine monitoring that we realised the 1,000th volunteer had been recruited. We will be contacting them to let them know and to ask them if they will help us publicise our work more widely. We are proud of some notable successes for individuals and organisations, not just the numbers, though it did surprise us a bit!

SUIT set up market leading service user involvement website

Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council project – SUIT (which stands for Service User Involvement Team), have set up their very own website which they hope will inspire people suffering from drug addiction to get involved in their project. The site hosts useful tools surrounding drug addiction - such as an online magazine, news section, explanation of project, addiction calculator, useful links page, testimonies plus much more.
